Rejoice - Beckham Sneak Peak

If this isn't considered an early Christmas present, then i don't know what is...

The Beckham Armani ads have unofficially arrived! The campaign will debut inside Vanity Fair's swank February issue - look for the complimentary Beckham/undie pin-up inside!

Question: Is this sort of publicity helping or hindering D. Beckham's reputation as a soccer god? It's obvious that this undie escapade is helping his wallet, but with his never-ending soccer injuries and his constant low amount of playing time on the field, one can only wonder when his peers will start too look at him as a joke (sorry Becks!).

I want to know what you think!

I agree with you Lyns on both facts: 1.That he is fabulous eye candy and 2.That it definitely will not help his reputation as a serious athlete if he continues along the high fashion path.

Yes many athletes do have commercials and print ads but usually they're riding the masculine wave if you catch my drift. As much as we'd love to see Reggie Bush (and his 10-pack) posing in next-to-nothing, PTI and every player in the NFL would take his man card (yes his man card). The only male athlete that I can think of off the top of my head that is featured in ads that tap the fashion market is Tom Brady. He can be seen in Stenson ads I believe... But Tom is in no way questioned about his ability as an athlete rather he's seen as potentially one of the best quarterbacks to grace the NFL. That is probably why he can get away with those kinds of career decisions.

As for Mr. Beckham, he needs to prove to the sports community that his L.A. team didn't just make the worst financial decision of their franchise. So he needs to put his clothes back on and hit the soccer field for a few hours.

P.S. You can catch Reggie with his shirt off in the Subway commercials

Val, thanks for your comments.

Have you ever thought of putting together a sports/publicity column?

Seriously, what you wrote was so matter-of-fact, and it sounded great!

I totally agree with you, Beckham's how do you say - "man card" is slowly slipping out of his grasp.
